Humidity

The cost of humidity issue prevention is far cheaper than me repairing humidity issues.

My workshop is humidified to 40ish% and any instruments with humidity related repairs (eg cracks, protruding fret ends, popped braces etc) will hang on my workshop wall for 2-4 weeks before I begin any repairs.

If I repair a humidity related issue and you don’t continue to humidify your instrument at home and your guitar cracks or gets popped braces again, you pay again. Like the first time it happened, the second time is also your fault.

I don’t humidify instruments without doing other repair work.

For around $35, you can be in control of dry humidity.

I use and recommend these excellent products to help maintain and monitor correct humidity for a healthy instrument.

Humidifier (Guitar case)- Music Nomad MN300- https://amzn.to/4d15NPJ

This is the best in case humidifier as the sponge holds more water than any other.

Hygrometer- Acurite (01083M)- My Favorite hygrometer as it can be calibrated.

Humidifier (Whole room) - This ultrasonic humidifier is what I use to keep my entire workshop at a good humidity.

Dry Humidity Info for my local Customers

  • Keep your instrument (acoustic or electric) around 40% relative humidity (for Grand Junction , Colorado).

  • If you don’t humidify your instrument after any repairs, all work is not warrantied. If you don’t humidify, you pay again if it cracks again, which it will, often next to the previous repair glue line.

  • The cost of a sound hole/case humidifier ($15) AND hygrometer ($20) is far cheaper than the cost of repair caused by humidity: eg protruding fret ends, cracks, popped braces etc.

  • If particularly dry, humidify the instrument in the case as the smaller environment of the case is easier to add humidity too then a room in the house.

Summer

• Air is hotter & can be very dry (Colorado).

Air conditioning further dries out the air.

Winter

• Snow dries out the air.

Adding heat in the home, (central heating, log fire etc) further dries out the air very fast.
