Loose Braces
Hot Hide Glue will be used throughout on any vintage instruments.
Cost of loose brace repair depends on two things:
The glue used to glue the braces to the top or back.
If hide glue was used, regluing is easy as hot water and new hot hide glue reinvigorates the original glue. In short, the new glue sticks to the old glue therefore the old glue doesn’t need to be removed.
If modern glue was used (pva like Titebond original, epoxy, Resorcinal (the ugly red stuff), Cascamite (the ugly grey stuff) all this original glue needs to be removed from all surfaces before the brace can be reglued as any new glue doesn’t stick to the old glue.
The location of the loose brace due to the extra time required to work on difficult to reach places such as near the butt. The closer to the soundhole the loose brace (or any repair) is, the easier everything is.
